The short answer

Not by itself. ChatGPT and other AI assistants can help a shopper find products and compare them.

In most cases the sale still finishes where it always has: the shopper pays at the shop's own checkout, and the order is made and kept in your own Odoo.

Paying inside an AI assistant is the exception. It works only where your shop has card payments for AI assistants switched on, and the assistant's platform has accepted your shop.

Nobody can promise that an assistant will recommend your products. That is up to the assistant.

How a sale reaches your Odoo, in five steps

  1. The shopper asks an AI assistant for a product.
  2. The assistant reads your product data, feeds and agent profile.
  3. A basket is built with the products the shopper chose.

At your shop

  1. The shopper pays at your own checkout.
  2. The order is made and kept in your own Odoo.

How AI assistants find products

An AI assistant can only suggest what it can read. These are the places it reads about a shop.

Your product data. Names, descriptions, prices, stock and pictures. Odoo already keeps all of this in one place, beside your orders and your checkout, which is a strong start. Clear names and full descriptions help every reader of your shop, human or machine.

Product feeds. A feed is a file listing your products and their prices, for a shopping service to read. Odoo 19 and Odoo 20 make a Google feed themselves, once Google Merchant Center is switched on in their website settings; Odoo 18 has none, so the free module makes one for it. None of them builds the product list ChatGPT needs, so the free module builds that one too, on 18, 19 and 20.

Apply at chatgpt.com/merchants first: ChatGPT takes product lists only from shops OpenAI has approved. Nothing in the free module sends the list to OpenAI: an approved shop delivers the file the way OpenAI explains on approval. Whether your products appear in ChatGPT is OpenAI's decision, not Zaltric's.

Your shop's own pages. AI assistants read websites too. Pages that say plainly what you sell, what it costs, where you deliver and how returns work are easier for them to understand, and for your customers.

A description written for machines. A shop can publish two short summaries of itself for AI assistants, at /llms.txt and /agents.md, and an agent profile at /.well-known/ucp. The agent profile describes the shop in the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard for describing a shop to AI assistants.

What happens when a shopper wants to buy

Most purchases finish at your shop's own checkout. The shopper lands on your website's basket and pays there, the way they would on any visit. Your Odoo has the last word: it prices the basket again and applies its own stock rules before the shopper pays, exactly as it does for a shopper who arrived through your website.

Paying inside an AI assistant needs more. Your shop needs card payments for AI assistants switched on, a Stripe payment provider set up in your Odoo, and your Stripe account ready for payments from AI assistants. The assistant's platform also has to have accepted your shop.

Where all of that is true, the assistant can pay with a single-use Stripe token, charged on your own Stripe account. Your Odoo then confirms the order once Stripe has taken the payment, as it does for a card payment on your website. Card payments for AI assistants are part of the Zaltric service, and they stay off until you switch them on.

Either way, the money goes to you, and Zaltric does not take the payment.

What an Odoo shop can do today

  1. Run the free check. Type your shop's address into the free check at check.zaltric.com. There is no sign-up. It gives your shop a letter grade, and tells you in plain words what an AI assistant can and cannot see.
  2. Tidy your product data. Give every published product a clear name, a full description and a price, and keep its stock up to date in Odoo. OpenAI requires a brand on every product, and Odoo has no brand field of its own. The help page explains where the free module looks for one.
  3. Install the free module. It runs on Odoo 18, 19 and 20 with the eCommerce app, on Odoo.sh or your own server. Odoo Online does not let you install a module of your own, so it is not supported. From the moment it is installed, the module publishes your shop's description for AI assistants from your own Odoo. The help page says how to install it.

Where Zaltric fits

The free Odoo module is the one described above: it publishes your shop's description for AI assistants and builds the product files, from inside your own Odoo.

A subscription adds the hosted shop window: a copy of your catalogue that AI assistants can search, kept up to date from your Odoo automatically. When a shopper chooses a product in it, the shop window sends them to your own checkout with the basket filled. Every paid plan gets everything Zaltric offers today; the plans differ in size and speed. The pricing page has the details.

Zaltric is an independent company, and is not affiliated with Odoo.

Start with the free check

See your shop the way an AI assistant reads it. The free check asks for your shop's address and nothing else: no email, no account. Whatever it says an assistant cannot see is the place to start.
